Trans fat
Today
3-day window. Water-soluble and not stored, so a short run of days is the signal.
0.03 g
Shown as an absolute amount. There is no percentage here because there is no target — see the intake context below.
What it is
The one fat with no safe intake. Largely removed from the food supply.
Intake context
Not a target.
- Typical intake
- 1.3 g/dayNHANES, US adults — approximate, pending verification against the source tables
No reference intake exists, and no safe level has been identified. The DRI report recommended intake be as low as possible; WHO has pushed for elimination of industrially produced trans fat outright, and much of the supply has now been reformulated. Small amounts occur naturally in dairy and beef and are not thought to carry the same risk.
Full write-up not finished
The reference intake above is real and cited — Trans fat is assessed against it exactly like any other nutrient. What is missing is the written panel: what it does in detail, what deficiency and excess look like, absorption, interactions, and food sources ranked against what you eat.
